Longreach House – Winter
Winter Event Venues in Cashiers, North Carolina
At Christmastime Longreach House is decorated in all its Christmas finery. Garlands and ribbons are hung on entrance lights, the archway to the courtyard and around the front porch. Exterior trees are lit with thousands of tiny lights giving the guests a feeling of a winter wonderland. A large fresh greenery wreath is decorated with the colors chosen for that year inside the house. Upon entering the hall my guests are greeted with the scents of evergreens and spices. They are invited to the living room and the study for a little Christmas “cheer” along with caviar and small country ham biscuits. Sandy Linebaugh decorates the house so spectacularly that I can hardly wait to see what she creates! The only thing I do is decorate the tree. I have been collecting ornaments since I was five years old when my mother let me select a box of small glass ornaments one of which was a little horn that worked when I blew on it. Ever since, every year, I blow on it to open the long process of dressing the tree. One year a designer friend of mine, Charles Faudree, and his family conned me into decorating two trees as they were joining in on the celebration. After they were finally completed I vowed that was the first and last time that folly was executed!!

Bob and I started a tradition when we moved to Cashiers of inviting friends to our home for Christmas night supper. Along with Sandy's glorious center piece and Chef Ed's spectacular six course meal our Christmas is extended well into the evening. We pop our Christmas crackers and don our paper crowns and read the silly messages held within. Each guest is given a box of Godiva chocolates to take home with the strict instructions to eat two before bedtime to help them dream of the good things to come in the year ahead. This experience can be extended to you during the holiday!
